Did you know?
In the racing of building skyscrapers, the spire of the Chrysler Building was kept secret, built on site and installed quickly. It brought the Chrysler Building to a height of 1046 feet, the tallest building at the time. However, it was short lived, and the Empire State building claimed the title of tallest building a few months later.
From the building's opening until 1945 it contained a 3,900 square feet observation deck on the 71st floor, called "Celestial".
The Cloud Club was a lunch club that occupied the 66th, 67th, and 68th floor. sIt opened in 1930 and closed in 1979.
